Blanche (Ruthie) Newsome Ray age 76 passed away Monday, June 27th, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Ruthie was born on June 10th, 1935 to her parents the late Andrew Newsome and Annel Ray Newsome. She was the wife of the late George Ray, a homemaker, and a member of Energyville Freewill Baptist Church. Along with her husband and parents, Ruthie was preceded in death by nine brothers, Clement, Wilson, Jessie, Russell, Robert, William Harrison, Andrew, Trussell, Feddie, eight sisters, Mary Hamilton, Stella Hamilton, Mella Damron, Nancedia Bryant, Ella Newsome, Rena Blair, Anzie Damron, and Isabella, one great grandson. Ruthie is survived by two daughters, Georgianna Ray of U.S. 23 South, Phyllis (Paul) Deskins of Vera Drive of Pikeville, two brothers, Troy Newsome, Noah Newsome, one sister, Victoria Hamilton, one grandson, George Randall (Nikki) Huffman, one great-grandson, special niece, Rebecca Akers, special great-niece, Ruthie Akers, great nephew, Andrew Akers, and several nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss her dearly. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with David and Josh Bentley officiating. The burial will follow in the Newsome Branch Cemetery.
