Jack D. Sturgill

Jack D. Sturgill age 87 passed away Sunday, July 10th, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Jack was born on Dec. 17th, 1923 to his parents the late David Sturgill and Dakota Sturgill. He was the husband of the late Geneva Ratliff Sturgill, a retired coal miner for AA&W Coal Co., and a member of the Ashcamp Old Regular Baptist Church. Along with his wife and parents, Jack was preceded in death by four brothers, Grant, Noah, Wallace, and Manis, and five sisters, Sara, Hoffa, Juanita, Kylone, and Rosanna. Jack is survived by two sons, Jimper D. Sturgill of Robinson Creek, David A. Sturgill of Hellier, two daughters, Jackie Sturgill Giovannelli of Vienna, Va., Dale Sturgill Slone of Brystol, Tennessee, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends who will miss him dearly. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Tuesday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 12 noon at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Jerry Overstreet, Ted Honaker, and others officiating. The burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
