Alfred Drayton (Elmo) Kendrick age 82 passed away Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Alfred was born on May 12, 1929 to his parents the late William Drayton Kendrick and Valeria Hardin Kendrick. He was the husband of Julie Hopkins Kendrick, a a retired coal miner for Adkins Coal Company, and a member of the Greasy Creek Freewill Baptist Church. He also served his country honorably in the U. S. Army during Korean War. Along with his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by one son, Dwight Allen Kendrick, four brothers, Earl, Joseph, Frank , and William Kendrick, seven sisters, Gladys Coleman, Katherine Rupert, Charity Jones, Ada Brian, Elizabeth Ables, Mary Blanton, and Carrie Moore. Along with his wife, Alfred is survived by two sons, Jason Edward (Elizabeth) Kendrick, Alfred Hardin (Shauna) Kendrick, four daughters, Carrie Lynn Kendrick, Cynthia Marie Kendrick, Valeria Lee (Reedy) Gillespie, Allie Renee (Brad) Kendrick, one brother, John Henry Kendrick, two sisters, Virginia Pratt, Hattie Mae Lawler, eight grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Friday at 7p.m. at the Greasy Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Church services will be Friday and Saturday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011 at 1p.m. at the Greasy Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Fred Neeley, Jimmy Jack Adkins, and Jimmy Reed Adkins officiating. The burial will follow in the Alfred Kendrick Cemetery.
