Alpha T. Smith Hamilton, age 92, of Virgie, Ky, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at the Pikeville Medical Center. She was born on December 28, 1918, the daughter of the late Jack and Draxie McCown Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, K. Leonard Smith, by her second husband, Wesley Guy Hamilton, by a granddaughter, Kimberly Beth Smith, by a step-son, Dick Shelton Smith, by two sisters, Thelma T. Roberts and Yvonia T. Ray, and by three brothers, Algie Thomas, Kermit Thomas, and James Howard Thomas. Alpha was a homemaker and a member of the Little Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Kermit H. (Sherril) Smith of Little Robinson Creek and Bobby Gene (Brenda) Smith of Shelbiana, Ky, by three sisters, Jackqueline T. Hall of Island Creek, KY, Aileen T. Shepherd of Utica, MI. and Naomi T. Meeks of Oxford, MI, by four grandchildren, Christina Elswick, K. Stephan Smith, Katrina Blackburn, and Jennifer Smith Charles, and by three great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 14, 2011, after 6 p.m at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Little Creek Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the the Jack Thomas Cemetery at Island Creek. Special services will be held on Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m.
