Madge Kirk (Potter) Johnson, age 76, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Madge was born on August 14, 1935 to her parents the late Andy Kirk and Vinnie Fields Kirk. She was the wife of William Martin Johnson, a retired homemaker who was devoted to doing lots of community service with food banks and donation of clothing and household items for those less fortunate. She was full of live and energy until shortly before this illness. She had been a Christian for many years and attended several different churches in communities where she lived. She graduated as valedictorian of Warfield High School and attended Pikeville College. Along with her parents, Madge was preceded in death by her husband Milburn Eugene Potter, and three sisters, Irene Kirk, Jean Kirk Webb, Ruby Kirk Stepp, one brother, Arvil Kirk. Along with her husband, William, she is survived by one son, Jack Johnson of Pikeville, two daughters, Michelle Anderson of Pikeville, Cheryl King of Louisville, two sisters, Geneva Kirk Pack of Ashland, Ky., Ruth Kirk Reed of Flatwoods, Ky., eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a host of loving nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will miss her dearly. Visitation will be Friday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Saturday Nov. 26, 2011 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Steve Knisley officiating. The burial will follow in the Johnson Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a community food pantry of your choice.
