Richard Thompson age 84 passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at the Riverview Nursing Home in Prestonsburg, Ky. Richard was born on March 19, 1927 to his parents the late Ked Thompson and Vera Phillips Thompson. He was the husband of the late Maxine Justice Thompson, retired shipping clerk and regional mgr. for Flower's Bakery for 42 years, and a member of the Highlands Church of Christ. Richard also served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Along with his wife and parents, Richard was preceded in death by five sisters, Margaret Thompson, Ima Jean Thompson, Jessie Thompson, Eula Thompson, Nell Cartmell, and two brothers, Clyde Thompson and Ked Thompson Jr. Richard is survived by one daughter, Donna Sue Ratliff and her husband, Edwin of Kimper, Ky., one granddaughter, Michelle L. Chapman, one brother, Larry Thompson of Allen, Ky., two sisters, Bessie Morrow of Knoxville, Tn., Marie Bevins of Pikeville, Ky., and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Wednesday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Thursday Dec. 15th, 2011 at 11a.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Aaron Davis officiating. The burial will follow in the R.H.Ratliff Cemetery.
