Butler Newsome age 87 passed away Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Butler was born on April 20, 1924 to his parents the late Elizabeth and Anthony Newsome. He was the husband of Joan Damron Newsome, a retired coal miner and carpenter, and a deacon at the Little Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. He also served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. Along with his parents, Butler was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenis, Jarvey, and Charlie Newsome and two sisters, Pernita and Annabel. Along with his wife, Butler is survived by one daughter, Sharlene (Cecil) Moberly of Leesburg, Florida, one son Eugene (Cathy) Newsome of Pikeville, Ky., three granddaughters, Kim (Mark) Nash, Ambria (Richard) Ray, Sara Newsome, and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Ray, Luke Ray, and Randi Osborne, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Tuesday and Wednesday at 7p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at 11a.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. The burial will follow in the Potter Cemetery.
