William George (Bill) Gilpin age 85 passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Bill was born on Dec. 15, 1926 to the late Hershel Darrell Gilpin and Maude Mooney Gilpin. He was the husband of the late Sally Margene Coleman Gilpin, a retired carman and steam crane operator for C & O Railroad, and he also served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Along with his wife and parents, Bill was preceded in death by one sister, Marlene Lucas. Bill is survived by three sons, Freddie (Cassandra) Gilpin of Robinson Creek, Eddie Gilpin of Sookey's Creek, Chris (Janie) Gilpin of Sookey's Creek, one brother, Forrest Gilpin of Arizona, one sister, Madine Charles of Arizona, three grandchildren, Kenton Gilpin, Chad Gilpin, Jana Gilpin, two great-grandchildren, Jordan Wright and Blake Wright, and a host of loving family and friends who will miss him dearly. Visitation will be Thursday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Friday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 at 11a.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with John George Blackburn and Tommy DeHart officiating. The burial will follow in the Potter Cemetery at Yeager, Ky.
