Franklin D. Phillips, age 71 passed away Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Pikeville Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 11, 1940 to his parents the late William Kerry Phillips and Grace Williamson. He was a retired coal miner for Ky. Carbon Coal Company, and a member of the Church of Christ. Along with his parents, Franklin was preceded in death by one brother, Sid Phillips, one sister, June Meade, several infant brothers and sisters. Frank is survived by one son, Barry Phillips of Stomping Ground, Ky, one daughter, Melissa Childress of Stomping Ground, Ky, their mother, Betty Thompson Phillips, three brothers, William Paul Phillips of Phyllis, Ky., Edgar Phillips of Catlettsburg, Ky., Zack Phillips of Rush, Ky., three sisters, Mae Thacker of Greenup, Ky., Mildred Justice of Hardy, Ky., Billie Justice of Kimper, Ky., four grandchildren, Jacob Childress, Jasmine Francisco, Lucas Phillips, Levi Phillips, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Tuesday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Dewayne Abshire officiating. The burial will follow in the Mt. Valley Memorial Garden at Big Rock, Va.
