Vernon D. Flanary, 84, of Lexington, formerly of Robinson Creek, died Monday, November 5, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital East in Lexington. He was born September 11, 1928, in Pikeville, the son of the late Willie and Draxie Flanary. He was a small business owner (Valley Auto Parts), a member of the Elkhorn City Church of Christ, attended Broadway Christian Church in Lexington and member of the Former Auditorium Bible Class. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Howard Flanary, and a grandson, Jason Flanary, two sisters Irene Shea, Jean Williamson, and one brother Jack Flanary. He is survived by his wife, Virginia P. Flanary; a son, Phillip Flanary (Patti); one brother, Astor Flanary (Ruby); one sister, Louise Johnson; two grandchildren, Randi Flanary Womack (Brian), Jon Mark Flanary, and two great-granddaughters, Macie Blair Womack and Mason Reed Flanary. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 9, at Lucas and Son Funeral Home, Pikeville, with Jim Ed Belcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville. Pallbearers will be Hazel Hall, Tommy Rowe, Gerald (Bebo) Rowe, Frank Cook, Ed Hawkins, David Sanders, David Compton, and Sammy Rose. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Spradlin, Fayette May, Arthur Hall, Goffrey Salyer, and the Gideon Bible Class members. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home with special services at 7:30 p.m., Billy Ford officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Lucas and Son Funeral Home, Pikeville.
