Alvers Johnson, age 94, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Alvers was born on April 13, 1918 to his parents the late Monroe Johnson and Lina Johnson. He was the husband of Maewood Johnson, a retired coal miner, member of the UMWA, and a member of the Church of Christ. Along with his wife and parents, Alvers was preceded in death by two daughters, Bonnie L. Damron and Brenda J. Tackett. Alvers is survived by two sons, James D. (Jimmy) Johnson, Jerry (Doc) Johnson, one daughter, Terri L. Carter, one brother, Newton Johnson, one sister, Creetie J. Hurt, twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Monday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Tuesday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 12 noon at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Church of Christ Ministers officiating. The burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
