Garlen Yates age 84 passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Garlen was born on March 25, 1929 to his parents the late John Yates and Bessie Casebolt Yates. He was the husband of Ina May Causey Yates, a disabled coal miner, and a member of the freewill baptist church. Along with his parents, Garlen was preceded in death by two sons, Cornelius Yates and Johnny Willis Yates, four brothers, Leonard, Denver, Gordie, and Herman Yates, and two sisters, Dixie Damron and Ruth Faye. In addition to his wife, Garlen is survived by one son, Jeffrey (Angela) Yates, five daughters, Jenny (Nuddy) Adkins, Yvonne (Don) Coleman, Teresa Lynn (Johnny) Yates, Darlene (Kenneth) Yates, Debbie Walker Yates, two brothers, Albin Yates, Raymond Yates, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Thursday and Friday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11a.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Jimmy Jack Adkins and others officiating. The burial will follow in the Mary Yates Cemetery at Greasy Creek.
