Charles Akers

Charles Akers, age 77, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at his home. Charles was born on Nov. 28, 1935 to his parents the late Bert Akers and Octavia Akers. He was the husband of Sola Akers, a retired coal miner for Douglas Coal Company, and a believer of the Old Regular Baptist Faith. Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by one daughter, Palestene Akers, one sister, Wanda Belle Shepherd, and two brothers, Arnie Akers and Anthony Akers. Along with his wife, Charles is survived by one son, Ronnie (Cassandra) Akers, one daughter, Sandra Rock, two brothers, Mike (Fay) Akers, Ishmal (Verbal) Akers, two sisters, Avonelle Bentley, Juanita Reynolds, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Friday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Friday and Saturday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Akers Family Cemetery.
