James A. Thomas

James A. (Papaw) Thomas, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 at the Pikeville Medical Center. James was born on Sept. 6, 1937 to his parents the late Rush Thomas and Octavia (McCown) Thomas. He was the husband of the late Gladys Bartley Thomas, a retired coal miner/truck driver, and a member of Valley Grace Freewill Baptist Church. Along with his wife and parents, James was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis Lee Thomas and Denver Darrell Thomas. James is survived by one son, Jimmy (Debra) Thomas, one brother, Paul Edward Thomas, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Tuesday and Wednesday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 at 12 noon at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Randy May and Nick Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Willard Bartley Cemetery at Penny Road.
