James David Bevins

James David Bevins, age 78, was taken to heaven December 4, 2013. Born February 19, 1935, was a minister of the Church of Christ since May 1984. He was a proud member of the UMWA. He held the position of the minister of the Grapevine Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Geraldine Anderson Bevins, his father and mother, Troy and Elizabeth Bevins of Phyllis, Kentucky. He is survived his wife, Brenda C. Bevins, two daughters, Rhonda Burks, Beverly (Richard Handy) Bevins-Handy, two sons, James Troy (Shelia) Bevins, Robert (Christina) Bevins, two step children, Allen E. (Jennifer) Abshire, Bridget (Aron) McCoy, two sisters, Dorlois good, Shirley (Jim) Grizzle, one brother, Donald Blake (Reable) Bevins, He was the proud grandparent of four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He ws dearly loved and respected by his father and mother-in-law, Otto and Marie Chapman, brothers and sisters in law, Roy an dSandra Chapman, Larry and Kathy Chapman, J.Morgan and Brenda Chapman, Hubert and Cindy Chapman, and Sandy and Mack Hatfield. Visitation will be Thursday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at 11a.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Mt. Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to Hospice of the Bluegrass, St. Jude's, or The Cancer Society.
