Edith "Tead" Allean (Coleman) Easterling

September 13, 1925 — May 3, 2014

EDITH ALLEAN (COLEMAN) EASTERLING died on May 3, 2014 in Xenia, Ohio. She was born on Poor Bottom Hollow, Pike County Kentucky, on September 13, 1925 to Ellie Sanders Coleman and Bev Coleman. She lived her whole active life on Poor Bottom and only moved to Xenia, Ohio when she became a stroke victim and unable to live independently. She was the youngest and last of ten brothers and sisters.   She was lovingly cared for the past ten years by our most loving and giving sister, Rose Nell Hamilton. We all know that Mother would not have lived as long as she did nor had the quality of life she enjoyed without the care provided for her by Rose Nell.   Mother was married to Jacob (Jake) Harlan Easterling in 1945 who predeceased her. He was a coal miner and Mother worked at home and in the community their whole lives. They leave behind four children, Sue Ella Kobak (Dr. Art Van Zee), VA; Peggy Joyce Lorr, SC. (Edward Lorr, deceased) Rose Nell Hamilton, OH; and Jake Danny Easterling, KY. (Angie Easterling). She is also survived by her long-time family friend and care-giver, Jayne Wead of Xenia, OH.   She had twelve grandchildren: Mark Hamilton(Anna); Dirk Hamilton; Zeke Kobak(Jill), Benjamin Van Zee, Sophie Mae Van Zee, Todd Easterling, Matthew Lorr(Misty), Casey Lorr(Ryen), Robin, Tammy, Ronnie Easterling, Sammy Casebolt, & Kelly Collins (deceased). She also was blessed with many great grandchildren.   Many people in the hollow and on Marrowbone Creek also knew Edith as “Tead”. She started using her name as Edith after she began working for the War on Poverty. She stood up against strip mining in our community, she also helped get clean water in our community, she worked hard for poor people and their needs so that American Democracy would work the way it is supposed to work.   Mother was a born Republican, but the truth can be told that she voted for Hillary Clinton in the Ohio primary in 2008 because she said that she did not think she would be able to vote for a woman for president in her lifetime. Her and our father’s commitment was to God, family and community.  The family will receive friends and guests at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home, on Tuesday, May 6th at 7 PM. The funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 7th at noon, with burial following at Annie E. Young Cemetery. The family requests that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Highlander Education Center; 1959 Highlander Way; New Market, Tennessee 37820; or a charity or church of your choice in her name. Condolences can be sent via Lucas & Son Funeral Home.
