Elmer Blackburn

Elmer Blackburn, age 74 passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Pikeville Medical Center.  Elmer was born on Aug. 16, 1939 to his parents the late James A. "Lonnie" Blackburn and Martha Coleman Blackburn.   He was the husband of Berna Thacker Blackburn, a coal miner and a believer of the Old Regular Baptist Faith.     Along with his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Roy Blackburn, and two sisters, Irene Thacker and Joy Lawson.     Along with his wife, Elmer is survived by three sons, Elmer Timothy (Vicki) Blackburn, Michael Blackburn, Steven Todd (Christie) Blackburn, two brothers, Finis Blackburn, Reaford Blackburn, two sisters, Alice and Inis Coleman, five grandchildren, Jeremy, Peyton, Tyler, Hanna, and Sara, one great grandchild, Haleigh, and a host of loving family and friends.     Visitation will be Monday at 6p.m. at the Philadelphia Old Regular Baptist Church.  Church services will be Monday and Tuesday at 7p.m.  The funeral will be Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 11a.m. at the Philadelphia Old Regular Baptist Church with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating.  Burial will follow in the Thacker Family Cemetery at Lower Pompey.
