John C. Vanover, age 72, passed away Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Pikeville Medical Center. John was born on Nov. 20, 1941 to his parents the late Calvin Vanover and Virgie Vest Black. John was the husband of JoAnn Fleming Vanover, retired telephone technician, and a member of the Buckfield Freewill Baptist Church. He also served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his grandparents that raised him, Virgie and Wade Sanders, one half brother, Bill Vest. In addition to his wife, John is survived by one daughter, Donna Vanover, one brother, Bob (Sherry) Vanover, two half brothers, Curtis (Hilda) Vanover, Charles (Barbara) Vest, two half sisters, Patti Black, Marcia (Tom) Pafel, one foster brother, Robert Vanover, a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Wednesday at 7p.m. Visitation will be Thursday at 6p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Clintwood, Va. The funeral will be Friday, July 4, 2014 at 1p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Clintwood, Va.
