Sam "Peanut" Lucas, age 84, passed away Monday, Dec. 15, 2015 at the Mt. View Health Care Center. Sam was born on May 4, 1930 to his parents the late Sam Lucas Sr. and Minerva Mullins Lucas. He was a retired coal miner and C & O Railroad, and a member of Old Elkhorn Regular Baptist Church. Along with his parents, Sam was preceded in death by two sisters, Fannie Baker, Adinah Bentley, and five brothers, Ellis, James, Lester, Sid, and Lloyd Lucas. Sam is survived by fivs sons, Danny (Yvonne) Lucas, Eddie (Judy) Lucas, Roger (Wendy) Lucas, Mike Lucas, Ricky (Dee) Lucas, four daughters, Joan (Coy) Collier, Peggy (Billy) Tackett, Connie Lucas, Kim Lucas, one brother, Aaron Lucas, twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren,and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday at 6p.m. at the Old Elkhorn Regular Baptist Church. Church services will be Wednesday and Thursday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 at 1p.m. at the Old Elkhorn Regular Baptist Church with Charles Nitchie and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Sam Lucas Cemetery at Shelby Gap.
