Ronald Dean Tackett

December 14, 1945 — May 6, 2015

Ronald Dean Tackett, 69, of Robinson Creek, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at his home. Born December 14, 1945, Dean was the son of the late Wick and Madge Tackett of Robinson Creek, Dean graduated from Virgie High School in 1964 and went to barber school in Ashland. After working as a barber, Dean went to work for Kentucky-West Virginia Gas Company, where he worked and was a proud union member for 28 years before retiring as a station engineer. He was a member of Shelby Valley Church of Christ. An avid fisherman, Dean loved the sound of electric filet knives around sundown as it meant a great day on the water. He was happiest when surrounded by friends and family at the lake. Dean and his wife, Betty Spears Tackett, started a successful business out of their home that grew to become Pike County Child Development. He was known as "Mr. Dean, the Apple Man" to a generation of Shelby Valley Day Care children because he peeled apples for the kids ever day after work. In recent years, Dean and Betty started Dreamz Stables, where he loved watching the horses and helping to host horse shows. Dean is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter Ronda Tackett of Atlanta, Ga; daughter Dena and son-in-law David Potter of Richmond, Va.; sisters Mabel Barker of Lexington, Barbara Roberts and Phyllis Stidham, both of Robinson Creek; brother Larry Dale Tackett of Goose Creek, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Alna "Brother" Tackett of Lexington; sisters Madlyn Roberts and Lois Marrs both of Robinson Creek. Visitation will be Friday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Friday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11a.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Greg Johnson and George Johnson officiating.
