Kermit Phillips

March 24, 1926 — October 12, 2015

Kermit John Phillips, age 89, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015 at his home. Kermit was born on March 24, 1936 to his parents the late Leonard Phillips and Stella Dotson Phillips. He was the husband of Illene Varney Phillips, a retired coal miner for Eastern Coal Corp., and a member of the Edo Freewill Baptist Church. He also served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. Along with his parents, Kermit was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Gannon Phillips, one son, Johnny Ray Phillips, three brothers, James, Herbert, & Darrell Phillips, and two sisters, Lurlie Compton, & Roma Phillips. Along with his wife, Kermit is survived by one son, Alan Ross (Roma) Phillips, one daughter, Rhinda (David) Ward, three step sons, Darrell Gregory (Floretta) Phillips, Timothy Wayne (Becky) Phillips, Richard Kermit (Doretha) Phillips, two sisters, Nola Hatfield and Geneva Lell, eight grandchildren, five step grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday at 6p.m. Church services will be Thursday and Friday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Saturday October 17, 2015 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Jim Patton officiating. Burial will follow in the Phillips Family Cemetery at Kimper, Ky.
