Dora Akers

Dora Akers, age 92, passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 at her home. Dora was born on Feb. 1, 1924 to her parents the late Creed Flannery and Mary Newsome Flannery. She was the wife of the late Noah Akers, and a homemaker. Along with her husband and parents, Dora was preceded in death by one son, Chris Akers, and one infant daughter, Sherry Lynn Akers, two brothers, Trimble Flannery, Hatler Flannery, four sisters, Lizzie Poteat, Rosie Gilliam, Dina Akers, and Jane Estep. Dora is survived by four sons, Crit Akers, Curtis Akers, Bobby Joe Akers, eight daughters, Erlene Morrison, Sylvia Termini, Elaine Gilpin, Nellie Little, Jeanette Elkins, Louise Anderson, Loretta Akers, Dawn Webb, twenty eight grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Monday at 6p.m. at the Dorton Old Regular Baptist Church. Church services will be Monday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday Feb. 16, 2016 at 1p.m. at the Dorton Old Regular Baptist Church with James Tackett, Paul Akers, and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Osborne Cemetery.
