Robert Draxel Tackett

Robert Draxel Tackett, age 82 of Milan, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, March 6, 2016. He passed away at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital from Pulmonary Fibrosis. Draxel was born on March 31, 1933 in Virgie, Kentucky to Arthur and Mabel Tackett, grandson of the late Grant Tackett. He married Linda Hall on October 12, 1956 in Clintwood, Virginia. Together they had three children, Shelly, Cheryl, and Jonathan. He graduated from Virgie High School in 1952. He went on to serve in the 7th, Infantry Division in Korea as a tank commander from February 1954 to December 1955. He joined the division's pistol team and was ranked the number one shooter. Draxel moved to Michigan afterwards and worked for 30 years at Great Lakes Steel. After retirement, he owned his own business as a master electrician, Tackett's Electric, Draxel and Linda made their home in New Boston for 36 years before moving to Milan. For over twenty years, they enjoyed their winters in Leesburg, Florida. Draxel enjoyed spending special moments with his grandchildren, playing cards, casino trips, and hunting and fishing. Robert lived a wonderful life and was loved by all who knew him. Draxel is survived by his loving wife, Linda of 59 years, daughter, Cheryl (Willy) Scott; son, Jonathan (Kim); six grandchildren, Danae' (Andrew) Moore, Elijah Scott, Lauren, Natalie, Hannah, and Zachary Tackett; and two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Delaena Moore. Draxel was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Shelly, his brothers, Grady, Earsel, Edgel, and one sister, Doreen (Paul) Calmes. Visitation will be Friday from 5p.m. to 9p.m. at the Lucas & son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Saturday, March 10, 2016 at 12 noon at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The burial will follow in the Frank Tackett Cemetery at Long Fork.
