Gerlean Hopkins, age 81, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Gerlean was born on Oct. 23, 1934 to her parents the late Ance Hopkins and Roxie Riley Hopkins. She was the wife of the late Basil Hopkins, a retired janitor for the Pike County Board of Education, a mother and grandmother, and a member of the Greasy Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. Along with her husband and parents, Gerlean was preceded in death by one son, Alfred Hopkins, two grandsons, Dwight Kendrick and Derek Hopkins. Gerlean is survived by three daughters, Julie Kendrick, Josephine Rowe, Sheila Hopkins, one son, Kevin Hopkins, one brother, Arthur Hopkins, one sister, Phyllis Hopkins Matheny, sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Wednesday and Thursday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Friday, April 8, 2016 at 12 noon at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Claymon Adkins and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Hopkins Cemetery at Greasy Creek.
