Bonnie Jean Smith

Bonnie Jean (Newsome) Smith, age 88, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Bonnie was born on July 11, 1928 to her parents the late Charlie Newsome and Verdie Little Newsome. She was the wife of the late Jesse B. Smith Jr., a retired school teacher for Pikeville Elementary School and a member of the Unity Freewill Baptist Church. Along with his husband and parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by four brothers, Virgil and William Dewey Newsome,Bert Newsome, Bluford Newsome, five sisters, Betty Browning, Nora Lawwill, Greta Jones, and Linda Lou Newsome and Bethel Tackett. Bonnie is survived by two sons, Keith B. Smith, Timothy Smith, one daughter, Sharon Smith, two sisters, Joyce Johnson, Mary Leeker, two grandchildren, Matthew Aaron B. Smith, Megan LeAnn Smith Childress, four great grandchildren, Oliver Childress, Destiny Fleming, Alexis Fleming, and Jonah Fleming, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Tuesday and Wednesday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Thursday at 11a.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Darrel Harmon, Mike Coleman, and Larry Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
