Raymond Milam Jr., was bornon April 30th 1928 at Virgie, Ky., a son of the late Raymond Milam Sr. and Julia Harmon Milam. Raymond was a member of the Pikeville United Methodist Church. He had three brothers, Joe Jack,the late Eugene, the late Lin Milam, and two sisters, Rose Compton and the late Inez Sword. He served 20 years with U.S. Air Force and 20 Years U.S. Defense Dept. He spent one year in Vietnam 1967/1968 and received 2 bronze stars with "Valor". Raymond was married to Ethel Potter for 41 years, they had one daughter, Vaile Marie Milam, son in law, Steve Milam,two granddaughters, Lesley and Ave', one grandson, Shane Forrest, three great granddaughters, two great grandsons, and one great great grandson, and Joe Bear Taylor, who is like a son. He and his wife of 23 years, Forest Rose Milam started Sandy Valley Habitat for Humanity. In 1996 and 1997 had former U.S. President Jimmy Carter came and assist in building 20 Habitat Homes in one week. He and Forest Rose worked two years repairing and remodeling Virgie Alliance Church, the church where Forest Rose became a Christian and was baptized in Shelby Creek behind the church. Her father, Guy Johnson helped build the original Virgie Alliance Church. Forest Rose passed away May 9, 2014. Visitation will be Thursday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Friday March 3, 2017 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Johnson Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Johns Creek D.A.V.
