David Lee Copley, age 80, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at his home. David was born on April 18, 1937 to his parents the late James Walter Copley and Claire Virginia Hobbs Copley Smith. He was the husband of Maureen Blevins Copley, a landman for Appalachian Title Research and Ashland Oil, and a member of Virgie Baptist Church. He also served his country honorably in the United States Army, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by one brother, James Walter Copley II, and three sisters, Fanna May, Janie Taylor Cranford, and Joan Copley. Along with his wife, David is survived by one daughter, Joannie (Bob) Munz, one son, David Lee (Theresa) Copley II, one sister, Copper Copley, three grandchildren, Corey Copley, Bethany Copley Cox, Sara Le Blanc, four step grandchildren, Andrea Harper, Chasity Kiser, Michael Kiser, and David Kiser, five great-grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Friday, June 9, 2017 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Bill Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Robert Newsom Cemetery at Little Robinson Creek of Virgie.
