Ray Akers

Ray Akers, age 69 passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Ray was born on Oct 25, 1947 to his parents the late George Akers and Dorothy Edith Newsome Akers. Ray was the husband of Emma Lee Howell Akers, a retired detective for the Pikeville City Police Department, and pastor of Amazing Grace Worship Center. Ray also served his country honorably in the United States Army during Vietnam War. Along with his parents, Ray was preceded in death by one son, Brian Matthew Akers, his twin brother, Ronnie Akers, and one infant sister, Judy Akers. Along with his wife, Ray is survived by one son, Daniel Raymond (Diane) Akers, one granddaughter, Lauren Alexus (LaLa), and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Tuesday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 12 noon at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Bob Collins and Levi Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
