James Spears

James Russell Spears, age 80, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017 at the Pikeville Medical Center. James was born on Oct. 1, 1936 to his parents the late Dewey Spears and Lottie Sturgill Spears. He was the husband of Ruth Osborn Spears, retired lineman for New River Electric, and a member of the Upper Toler Church of Christ. Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by four children, Belinda Karen, Douglas Edward, Kathy Denise, and Debra Lynn Spears, two brothers, and two sisters. Along with his wife, James is survived by two daughters, Kimberly (James) Spears Sloan, Deanna (Michael) Gerard, two brothers, Burnis and Wayne Spears, five sisters, Linda Salisbury, Kanova Kingsley, Anna Justice, Della Jackson, Deborah Hunt, four grandchildren, James, Destiny, Katelynn, & Ivy, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Scott Thacker officiating. Burial will follow in the Sturgill Cemetery at Toler.
