James Monroe Cantrell, age 87 of Kimper, Kentucky, passed away on December 8, 2017, at the Pikeville Medical Center. James was born on February 14, 1930 to the late George Cantrell and Ethel Shell Cantrell. James was a coalminer, welder, worked for North American Aviation in Columbus, Ohio, White Oak Cooperage, Louisville, Ky. and a member of the Hylton Freewill Baptist Church. James served his country honorably in the United State Army and served during the Korean War. James was the husband of Barbara Cantrell. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one son, James Michael Cantrell, one sister, Geraldine Mullins. James is survived by his wife, two sons, Thomas Vance Cantrell, Timothy Lance Cantrell. James is survived by one brother, Larry Cantrell, two sister, Roseanna Little, Rethel Kelly, three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Sunday, December 10, 2017, 6:00 PM, at the Lucas and Son Funeral Home with special singing at 7:00 PM. Funeral will be Monday, December 11, 2017, 1:00 PM at the Lucas and Son Funeral Home with Hylton Freewill Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Rob Ratliff Cemetery, on Elkhorn Creek, Ky.
