Vernon Conway

Vernon Conway, age 86, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at his home. Vernon was born on Feb. 7, 1931 to his parents the late Green Conway and Mary Thacker Conway. He was the husband of the late Alene Thacker Conway, retired from U.S. Steel Mill, and an elder of Philadelphia Old Regular Baptist Church. Along with his wife and parents, Vernon was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Conway and Eyvind Conway, and three sisters, Bertha Conway, Tennessee Conway, and Zadie Coleman. Vernon is survived by two sons, Paul Vernon (Kathy) Conway, Frank Ronnie Conway, one daughter, Janet (Fitch) Reed, one brother, Gary Conway, two sisters, Nona Navis Thacker, Maggie Lee Thacker, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Friday at 6p.m. at the Philadelphia Old Regular Baptist Church. Church services will be Friday and Saturday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 11a.m. at the Philadelphia Old Regular Baptist Church with A.B. Thacker, Garfield Thacker, and Frank Thacker Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Thacker Family Cemetery at Lower Pompey.
