Draxie Hampton Newsom

Draxie Hampton Newsom, age 97, passed away on Monday, June, 9, 2008, at her home at Little Creek Road. Draxie was born on November 20, 1910, to her parents, the late Anthony and Delphia N. Hampton. Draxie was the wife of Amos Newsom. She was the mother of the late Tivis H. Newsom, one infant daughter, Mary and one infant son, James. She was the Mother-in-law of the late Berniece Newsom. Draxie was a member of Little Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Bessie, Rachael and Pearl and two brothers, Silas and Willie. Draxie is survived by one Grandchild, Sandra (Sandy) Carol Newsom. Five Great Grandchildren, Steven K. Newsome, Michael J. Newsome, Sherry Howard, Kathy Lefebure and Christy Justice. Five Great-Great Grandchildren, Sarah and Caroline Milam, Victoria Drew and Joseph Justice, Robert Howard II and one step Great-Great Grandchild, Christian Howard. Also, many beloved nieces, nephews & friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, after 6 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Amos Newsom Memorial Cemetery. Special services will be held on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7 p.m.
