Herman C. Brooks, age 84, of Shelbiana, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2010, at the Pikeville Medical Center. He was born on October 17, 1926, the son of the late John Lee and Rose Owens Brooks. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Lou Brooks, by a son, Russell Brooks, and by three sisters, Violet Coeburn, Ora June Brooks, and Opal May Brooks. Before his retirement, Herman worked as a conductor for the C&O Railway. He was also a member of the Shelby Community Church. He is survived by his second wife, Sammie Little Brooks, by a daughter, Rita (Frank) Coleman, by five sons, John Lee Brooks, Darrell R. (Elizabeth) Brooks, Rick A. (April) Brooks, Joe (Gina) Brooks, and Dale Brooks, by a half-brother, Charles Brooks, by fifteen grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 14, after 6 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Kermit McPeek officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery. Special services will be held on Sunday and Monday nights at 7 p.m.
