Harriett S. Johnson

Harriett S. Johnson, age 65, of Virgie, Ky. went home to be with her Lord and Savior at U.K. Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, KY, on November 30, 2010. She was born on March 9, 1945, the daughter of the late Harris and Virginia Childers Stancil. Harriett graduated from Pikeville High School in 1963. She received a BA in Education from Morehead University and received her Masters Degree from Eastern Kentucky University. She began her career teaching reading at Robinson Creek Elementary School. She later taught biology and human sciences at Dorton High School and Shelby Valley High School. During the 1990’s she worked as a facilitator for the Ky. Department of Education. As a facilitator, Harriett assisted with the implementation of email and power point technology for the teachers in the Pike County School System. After a successful career, Harriett retired from teaching in 2006. Harriett was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Carl H. Johnson, one daughter, Carla A. Johnson of Pikeville, Ky, and one son, Mark E. Johnson and his wife Jennifer of Harrodsburg, Ky, and two grandchildren, William H. and Brooke E. Johnson. Harriett was a very special lady who will be greatly missed by all. Harriett’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the UK Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, KY, and for the many prayers she received during her illness. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2010, after 6 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Dewey Roberts, Danny Belcher, James Tackett, Teddy Honaker, and others officiating. Burial will follow in the Frank Tackett Cemetery at Long Fork of Virgie. Special services will be held on Friday night at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the American Cancer Society.
