Willa Gaye Akers Champ, age 69, passed away Monday Sept. 20th, 2010 at her home in Roanoke, Va. Willa was born on Nov. 10th, 1940 to her parents the late Clifford and Gwendolyn Akers. She was the wife of Carson Champ, a homemaker, and a member of Independant Baptist Church in Roanoke. Along with her parents, Willa was preceded in death by one grandson, Adam Rauer, one granddaughter, Roxanne Branham, one brother, Clifford Douglas Akers, and one special brother in law, Eppie Bartley. Along with her husband, Willa is survived by five daughters, Deborah Lynn Branham of Regina, Ky., Lisa Roop of Roanoke, Va., Donna Rauer of Ft. Worth, Texas, Denise Compton of Roanoke, Va., Teresa Sharick of Tampa, Florida, one brother, Curtis Akers of Branham Heights, Ky., one sister, Shirley Bartley of Ashcamp, Ky., seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday from 6p.m. to 9p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Friday Sept. 24th, 2010 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Rick Bartley officiating. The burial will follow in the Johnson Memorial Park.
