Elmer Helvey age 89 passed away Thursday, Nov. 18th, 2010 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Elmer was born on May 7th, 1921 to his parents the late Jacob Helvey and Haley Jane Scott Helvey. He was the husband of Pauline Stratton Helvey, a retired miner for Kentland Elkhorn Coal Company, and a member of the Church of Christ. He also served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II and received a purple heart. Along with his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by one brother, Homer Helvey. Along with his wife Elmer is survived by one daughter, Susan (Danny) Blackburn, of Joe's Creek, one brother, Auborn (Wob) Helvey of Pikeville, one sister, Edith Syck of Lexington, one granddaughter, Summer, three great-grandchildren, Addison, Alexis, and Ashton, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Saturday at 6p.m. at the Lucas and Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Sunday Nov. 21st, 2010 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Church of Christ Ministers officiating. The burial will follow in the Davidson Memorial Garden.
