George F. Johnson

George F. Johnson age 90 passed away Sunday April 19th, 2009 at his home. George was born on June 7th, 1918 to his parents the late Eli and Eveline Johnson. He was the husband of Lexie Sowards Johnson, a retired coal miner for Island Creek Coal Company, and a member of the Shelby Valley Church of Christ. Along with his parents, George was preceded in death by four brothers, Melvin, Willard, Willy (Bill), and Noah Johnson. Along with his wife, George is survived by two daughters, Georgia Lee Scott of Pigeon Forge, Tn., Garol Compton of Lexington, Ky., five sons, Garla Johnson of Berea, Ky., Gregory Johnson of Jonancy, Ky., Gwendel Johnson of Tyler, Texas, Garnie Johnson of White Pine, Tn., George Johnson Jr. of Pikeville, Ky., one sister, Elva Burke of Paris, Ky., seventeen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Shelby Valley Church of Christ. The funeral will be Thursday 4-23-2009 at 11a.m. at the Shelby Valley Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
