Monk Smith Jr.

Monk Smith Jr. age 63 passed away Monday July 20, 2009 at the Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center. Monk was born on August 23rd, 1945 to his parents Clarence Smith and the late Vada Ball Smith. He was the husband of Myrtle Newsome Smith, a retired coal miner for Bethlehem Steel Coal Company, and a believer of the Old Regular Baptist Faith. Along with his wife and father, Monk is survived by two sons, Kenny Smith of Nicholasville, Ky., Rodney Smith of Sidney, Ky., one daughter, Liza Adams of Sidney, Ky., one sister, Judy Skeens of Hardy, Ky., two brothers, Paul Gene Smith of Belfry, Ky., Sollie Smith of Hardy, Ky., six grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be July 23rd, 2009 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Carson Wright, Richard Staton, Hobert Hamilton, David Crigger, and others officiating. The burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery at Canada, Ky.
