Jonah Bevins

January 10, 1934 — February 25, 2009

Jonah Bevins, age 74 passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25th, 2009 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Jonah was born on April 10th, 1934 to his parents the late Hiram Bevins and Mary Honaker Bevins. He was the husband of June Anderson Bevins, a member of the Church of Christ, and a retired coal miner for Justice Brothers Coal Company. Along with his parents, Jonah was preceded in death by five brothers, Woodrow Bevins, Luke Varney, Leaurah Varney, Walter Varney, and Estill Varney, and one sister, Mertie Hackney. Along with his wife, Jonah is survived by two sons, Roger Dale Bevins of Phyllis, Ky., Danny Ray Bevins of Kimper, Ky., one daughter, Patty Sue Hunt of Phyllis, Ky., one sister, Mae McCown of Ohio, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday at 6p.m. at the Upper Grapevine Church of Christ. The funeral will be Saturday 2-28-2009 at 1p.m. at the Upper Grapevine Church of Christ with Church of Christ Ministers officiating. The burial will follow in the Justice Cemetery at Kimper.
