Troy (Pops) Dotson

Troy “Pops” Dotson, 83, of Phelps, KY, passed away December 17, 2009 following a lingering illness. Born June 26, 1926 at Jamboree, KY, he was a son of the late George Wheeler, III and Louisa (McCoy) Dotson. In addition to his parents, Troy was preceded in death by five brothers, Lonnie, William "Wid", Clyde, Harold, and Fonso Dotson; as well as four sisters, Elva Nancy Wolford, Martha Woods, Della Mae Dotson, and Belva Dotson. Troy was a retired coal miner from Kentland-Elkhorn Coal Company and proudly served his country in the Army and fought in World War II and the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Nellie (Bostic) Dotson of the home; three daughters, Linda (Al) Mendoza of Berwyn, IL, Sharon (Randy) Stiltner of Cave Run, KY, and Sheri (Maurice) Allen-Curry of Lexington, KY, three grandchildren, Rebecca Dannielle Hatfield of Chicago, IL, Brandy Stiltner (fiancée Randy Smith), and Keith Stiltner (fiancée Santana Baugus) of Cave Run, KY,; one great-grandson, Reese Curry of Lexington, KY; three brothers, Clarence (Ressie) Dotson of Clay City, KY, Thurman (Pat) Dotson of Rockford, IL, and James "Jim" Dotson of Chicago, IL. He leaves behind a special brother, Thurman Dotson, special niece, Edna Rhea (Dotson) Horne, special nephew, Ernie Ison, special friends, Teddy Coleman, Eugene “Groundhog” Pruitt, and Rev. Mitch Bowling; and in addition a host of relatives, friends, and his church family. He was a faithful member of The Lord’s House, where he served as Head Deacon for 20 years. He was also a minister whose greatest passion was telling people about Jesus; many people referred to him as the “mall preacher”. He also was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, special uncle, and friend. Visitation will be at The Lord’s House, Phelps, KY, Saturday, December 19th from 7 PM to 10 PM. Funeral Services will be Sunday, December 20th, at 1 o’clock PM with Rev. Mitch Bowling officiating. Burial will follow at the Billy Dotson Family Cemetery, at Boardtree with full military honors by the Belfry DAV, Chapter 141.
