Virgil Bowling, age 91, of Caney, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at the St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington. He was born on September 10, 1918, the son of the late Dover and Daisy Crider Bowling. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Azza Stewart Bowling, by a daughter, Vickie Bowling, and by two brothers, Ralph and Francis Marion Bowling. Before his retirement, Virgil worked 43 years as a miner for the Beth Elkhorn Coal Company. He was a member of the Thomas C. Cecil Lodge #375, the York and Scottish Rites, and the El Hasa Shrine. He was also of the Regular Baptist Faith. He is survived by two sons, Thadeus Bowling and Donnie Gene Bowling, both of Caney, by a daughter, Connie Compton of Caney, by four brothers, Vernon Bowling of Caney, Robert Bowling of Danville, VA, Thomas Bowling of Danville, VA, and Johnnie Bowling of Danville, VA, by a sister, Ruby Robinson of Caney, by seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and three step-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2009, after 6 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 12 noon at the Caney Creek Old Regular Baptist Church with Kermit Wright, Don Blake Little, James Tackett, Carson Wright, Teddy Honaker & others officiating. Burial will follow in the Stewart Cemetery at Caney. Special services will be held on Sunday and Monday nights at 7 p.m.
