Amos Ray age 88 passed away Friday April 24th, 2009 at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington, Ky. Amos was born on Nov. 30th, 1920 to his parents the late Lacy Ray and Kissiah Dorton Ray. He was the husband of Gladys Hinkle Ray, a retired self employed truck driver, and he also served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. Along with his parents, Amos was preceded in death by three children, Willie Lee Ray, Freddy Ray, and Teresa Diane Ray, five brothers, Ben, Jack, Russell, Lacy Thomas, and Jesse Ray, and one sister, Gusta Ray. Along with his wife, Amos is survived by two sons, Palmer Lloyd Ray of Varney, Ky., Fabian Keith Ray of Varney, Ky., two daughters, Palestine Ray Thomas of Varney, Ky., Shelia Marie Ray of Varney, Ky., five sisters, Olie Hinkle of Oakwood, Va., Gracie Charles of Silver Springs, Fl., Martha McCoy of Anthony, Fl., Nancy McKinney of Silver Springs, Fl., Mary Ann Jones of Varney, Ky., five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Saturday at 6p.m. at the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday 4-26-2009 at 1p.m. at the Pilgrim Home Regular Baptist Church. The burial will follow in the Ray Family Cemetery at Varney, Ky.
