Jonah Garland Elkins age 71 passed away Saturday, Nov. 21st, 2009 at his home. Garland was born on April 4th, 1938 to his parents the late Ruben Dodge Elkins and Letha Mullins Elkins. Garland was the husband of Eura Mae McCurry Elkins, a retired coal miner, and a believer of the Old Regular Baptist Faith. Along with his parents, Garland was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Anthony Elkins, and one sister, Mary Gilpin. Along with his wife, Garland is survived by three sons, Randy Lee (Debbie) Tackett of Pikeville, Jonah Elkins of Ohio, Tommy Elkins of Ohio, five daughters, Tammy Lynn Bowyer of Pikeville, Courtney Elizabeth Elkins of Pikeville, Vickie Elkins of Ohio, Hazel Elkins of Ohio, Kelly Elkins of Ohio, four brothers, Lawrence Elkins of Indiana, John Elkins of Michigan, George Elkins of Jenkins, Ky., Virdell Elkins of Michigan, four sisters, Frascova Whitt of Va., Mathel Vanover of Myra, Ky., Myrtle June Newsome of Indiana, Linda Elkins of Michigan, three grandchildren, Stephanie Bowyer, William Elkins, Kenneth Young, and a host of loving family and friends who will miss him dearly. Visitation will be Monday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Tuesday 11-24-2009 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Bill Ratliff and Tommy Tackett officiating. The burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
