Emma Rose Compton, age 80, of Virgie, Ky, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the Parkview Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born on August 3, 1928, the daughter of the late Duran and Emily Ray Gibson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James David Compton, Jr, and by her daughter-in-law, Adell Johnson Compton. She was a former substitute teacher and a teachers aide at George F. Johnson Elementary School. She was also a long time member of the Coal Run Church of Christ. She is survived by two sons, Larry F. Compton (Mary Helen) of Millard, KY, and Gregory W. Compton (Charlotte) of Virgie, by one daughter, Judie Compton Durbin (Ron) of Owensboro, KY, by ten grandchildren, Amy Burke (Craig), Meredith Elswick (Jeremiah), April Hall (Stacy), Greg Compton (Stacy), Freddy Bowling (Melisa), Ricky Bowling (Alisha), Jessie Bowling (Sonya), Angie Robinson (Mike), Karen Lynch (Warren), and Travis Durbin (Stephanie), and ten great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 18, 2009, after 2 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Jerry Bliffen officiating. Entombment will follow in the O.T. Hinton Mausoleum at Johnson Memorial Park. Special services will be held on Monday evening at 7 p.m.
