Billy Joe Kilgore, age 76, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Billy Joe was born May 13, 1947 to his parents the late Walmer Kilgore and Elva Bartley Kilgore. He was the husband of Brenda Lenore Bevins Kilgore, a retired drill operator and certified blaster for Pike County Coal for over 31 years, and a believer of the baptist faith. He also served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during Vietnam War.
Along with his parents, Billy Joe was preceded in death by one daughter, Veronica Akers, one son, Michael Allen Kilgore, three brothers, Preston Dexter Kilgore, James Butler Kilgore, and Shannon Lee Kilgore.
Along with his wife, Billy Joe is survived by one daughter, Cindy (Cory) Howard, one son, David Joseph (Lydia) Kilgore, a granddaughter raised as a daughter, Alyssa Carol Kilgore, three brothers, Paul Kilgore, Bobby Kilgore, Blake Kilgore, one sister, Rita Kilgore, four grandchildren, Marc Akers, Devin Akers, Ella Howard, Eli Howard, one great grandchild, Dakota Akers, and a host of loving family and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Alleghany Freewill Baptist Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilson Cemetery at Draffin, Ky.
