In Loving Memory of Burbon "Bud" Kendrick
Burbon "Bud" Kendrick, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, at Pikeville Medical Center, with his devoted wife of 62 years, Helena "Gwen" Kendrick, by his side. Bud was born on April 5, 1943, to Carrie Thacker Kendrick and Sammie Kendrick, both of whom preceded him in death.
Bud’s life was a testament to love, service, and community. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness cherished by all who knew him. Bud is survived by his two daughters, Lisa Kendrick of Pikeville and Audria Kendrick Denker (Brian) of Louisville, Kentucky. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Jeremy Deal (Mala), Shawna Pilz (Kristopher), Jordan Owens, Siera Denker, and Joseph Daniels. Bud’s great-grandchildren—Jayden, Alisha, Ava, and Jacob—brought him immense joy, and he loved joking with them and spending time in their company.
Bud is also survived by his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He held a special place in his heart for his friends, whom he considered family as well. His presence will undoubtedly be missed at the country club, where he was a familiar face on the golf course, always ready with a warm smile and a playful quip.
A self-employed machinist, Bud owned Kendrick’s Machine and Radiator Shop, where he took pride in fixing things for others. His children learned the value of hard work by working alongside their dad, an experience that instilled in them a lifelong work ethic.
Bud loved God and was a devoted member of Elkhorn City Baptist Church. He was deeply committed to his community, participating in numerous civic and charitable organizations. One cause especially close to his heart was the A-Team, where he played a vital role in transporting disabled children to medical appointments at Shriners Hospital. Every year, he proudly represented the White Water Shrine Club at Hillbilly Days, riding his golf cart in the parade and joyfully tossing candy to children.
Bud’s service extended to his dedication as a member of the Masonic Lodge, where he achieved the rank of Master Mason and served within the Grand Lodge of Kentucky. He also served as a deputy sheriff and was a member of the GW Young Lodge #29 and the Fraternal Order of Police.
Bud’s life was marked by generosity, humor, and an unwavering love for those around him. His positive impact on family, friends, and the community will be felt for years to come. Though he is no longer with us, his memory lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Gwen, Lisa, and Audria wish to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses, staff, and doctors on the 6th and 9th floors of Pikeville Medical Center for their compassionate care during Bud’s final days.
A celebration of Bud’s life will be held at Lucas and Son Funeral Home on January 26, 2025, from 1–5 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 3 p.m. and a prayer following led by Chris Maynard.
