Charles Edward McCoy, better known as "Eddie" passed away on July 26, 2024, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. He was born on April 13, 1968 in Pikeville, Kentucky, to the late Fred McCoy and Sharon England. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Charles Dalton McCoy, and his brother, Michael McCoy.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Rosalie, and two sons: Caleb McCoy and Mason England McCoy; and two grandchildren: Quinten Alexander Steinberg (age five) and Colten Mack Fields (age three). He is also survived by his brother, Freddie McCoy (his wife, Angie) and nephew: Hobo McCoy, and two great nephews: Jaxon McCoy and Archer McCoy.
Eddie graduated as valedictorian of his class at Mullins High School in 1986. He had a full Scholarship at Pikeville College, where he graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He played basketball for Pikeville College during those four years. He continued his education by earning a Master of Arts degree in Special Education with a Rank I certification in school administration from Morehead State University in 1996. He received a Kentucky Certification for School Superintendent in 2005.
He taught for one year (1990-1991) at Meade Memorial Elementary and for six years (1991-1997) at Johnson Central High School. He was the principal of Louisa Elementary School for four years (1997-2001), assistant principal of Pikeville High School for one year (2001-2002), and principal of Pike County High School for four years (2002-2006).
He served as the head basketball coach for Meade Memorial (1990-1991), assistant basketball coach of Johnson Central High School (1992-1993), and as head coach of numerous little league basketball teams for which his sons played. Eddie also taught Kentucky State Traffic School for three years (2001-2004). He was also a member of the Morristown Church of Christ.
Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Tuesday and Wednesday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Tim McCoy and Burnin White officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery at Shelbiana, Ky.
