George Albert Adkins, age 71, of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at Pikeville Medical Center on April 30, 2024. George was born on January 25, 1953, to his parents Alfred Adkins and Pauline Bentley Adkins.
He was a lifelong resident of Pike County and was a proud Appalachian. George worked for 50+ years in various positions in the coal industry. He enjoyed fast cars, NASCAR, and motorcycles. He was a Kentucky Colonel, and a member of The Church of God in Jesus Name of Red Creek.
His greatest love of all was his family. He is survived by his devoted and loving life partner, wife, and mother of his children for 43 years, Denise Justice Adkins, one son, Jordan James Adkins of Louisville, Kentucky, one daughter Jade Allison Phillips, and a devoted son-in-law Matthew Carlton Phillips. Alongside his children, he is survived by his four loving grandchildren: Jaxton Timothy George Hunter, Jace Justice Hunter, Josie Marie Phillips, and Jent Bentley Hunter. He is also survived by one brother, Alfred Adkins, Jr., one sister-in-law, Lois Adkins, one aunt, Lois (Edgar) Bentley, all of Pikeville, and a host of loving family and friends.
Along with his parents, George was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Hamilton, a loving nephew Jeff Rowe, and a very special cousin, Doyle Wayne Coleman.
Visitation will begin Friday, May 3,2024 at 5 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The memorial service will begin at 7 p.m. at the Lucas & Son funeral home with Dr. Paul D. Potter officiating.
