Gillis Hamilton, age 85, of Brownstown Township, Michigan, formerly of Pikeville, Ky., passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2020 at the V.A. Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Gillis was born on Feb. 3, 1935 to his parents the late Lee Hamilton and Stella Moore Hamilton. He was the husband of the late Garnett Hamilton, a retired steel worker for Great Lakes Steel Company, and a member of the Rose of Sharon Church in Flat Rock, Michigan. Along with his wife and parents, Gillis was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Kay Dickenson, two brothers, Wendell Hamilton, Willard Hamilton, and two sisters, Geneva and Christine Hamilton. Gillis is survived by two sons, Michael (Louella) Hamilton, Rodney (Laurie) Hamilton, three brothers, Leonard, John Paul, and Hobert Hamilton, two sisters, Lovell Self, Ivy Compton, five grandchildren, Jami Rudd, Brandon Michael Hamilton, Heath Dickenson, Jason Michael Dickenson, Nicolette Rose Hamilton, nine great grandchildren, Reed, Victoria, Maverick, Miken, Brenden, Caden, Noah, Ethan, Emberlyn, and a host of loving family and friends. There will be a private family funeral with Ray Hamilton and others officiating.
