Jackie Johnson

March 1, 1951 — December 4, 2019

Jackie Johnson, age 68, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior December 4, 2019, at 7:00 PM at Whitesburg ARH Hospital.  Jackie was born in Pike County, Kentucky, on March 1, 1951 to his parents the late Jesse Johnson and Annett Johnson.  Jackie was a self- employed truck driver for 30 years.   Jackie is survived by his wife of 41 years Ruby Calhoun Johnson.  He and Ruby traveled from coast to coast seeing the country together. After retiring from trucking he worked for Branham and Baker Coal Company as a dispatcher.  Jackie then worked for Kentucky Oil and Refining company for 13 years.  He was a dispatcher for 11 of those.  The last two years he was in charge of purchasing and pricing crude oil.  He loved his job.  His work was always a bright spot especially in the last few years as he battled prostate and bone cancer.  When his health would no longer permit him to do what he loved, he retired.  Jackie spent the last months surrounded by and cared for by Ruby. As God knew he would be calling Jackie home soon he allowed him to spend his days with the people he loved and that loved him. My heart is breaking as I write my husbands obituary. I already miss him more than words can express. Jackie was preceded in death by his parents. Jackie is survived by his wife, one niece-Sarah Brown (Bacchus) their son- Cole.  Survived by three aunts, Vonda Johnson, Croma Tackett, Inez Bentley, one uncle- Gene Bow and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Friday, December 6, 2019, 6:00 PM at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church, with church services Friday and Saturday night at 7:00 PM   Funeral will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2019, 1:30 PM at the Burdine Freewill Baptist Church with Jeff Slone and Greg Polly officiating. Burial will follow in the Calhoun Cemetery- East Jenkins.
